Anchors

MTV SKINS

There is a new program on MTV called Skins.  It's a show based on a UK television program of the same name.  It revolves around a group of students who party, drink to excess, dabble in drug use, have sex with multiple partners, and lie to their naive parents all the while.  The program has a TV-MA rating and yet is clearly targeted at teens.  On the opening, night it drew 3.3 million viewers or a 3.4 rating.

The show is actually under fire right now for skirting child pornography laws.  In an upcoming episode, a 17 year old actor will be nude (from behind) on screen and the plot will center around a certain body part and male enhancement drugs.  All of this aimed at your 12 - 18 year old child.

It sickens and saddens me that this is on the air.  It sickens and saddens me that more people are upset that Jay Cutler ( Chicago Bears quarterback ) didn't play the whole game, than by this smut parading around as a T.V. show.  It sickens and saddens me that 3.3 million viewers watched this show and I wonder how many were students!?!

As a parent who is a follower of Christ, I am offended that this show tells my daughter that she is nothing more than a piece of meat to be used for pleasure.  I am offended that this show tells my son that he is nothing more than a penis and should look at young women as objects.  I am offended that this show tells my kids that it's ok to lie to me and pollute their bodies with all kinds of poisons.  I am offended that this show communicates that this is the way that teens live.

In a post-modern culture we must teach our children to discern right from wrong.  The only real way to do this, is to anchor God's word DEEP in their hearts.  We do this by reading it ourselves, and to them.  We must pray His word over them and live it out in our lives.

Psalm 1
1God blesses those people who refuse evil advice and won't follow sinners or join in sneering at God.  2Instead, the Law of the LORD makes them happy, and they think about it day and night.3They are like trees growing beside a stream, trees that produce fruit in season and always have leaves. Those people succeed
in everything they do. 4That isn't true of those who are evil, because they are like straw blown by the wind.
5Sinners won't have an excuse on the day of judgment, and they won't have a place with the people of God.
6The LORD protects everyone who follows him, but the wicked follow a road that leads to ruin.
